In using Clear Blue, the ovulation test is administered for a number of days preceding the expected surge day. The start day is based on a simple formula based on your normal menstrual cycle length. With each test, compare the intensity of the surge line to the intensity of the reference line. The reference line intensity remains constant irrespective of the level of Luteinising Hormone (LH) in the sample. The LH surge is indicated by when the intensity of the test line is similar to, or darker than, the intensity of the reference line. The surge normally occurs 24 - 36 hours before ovulation.
